AllocatIN vs Preqin / PitchBook

AllocatIN is a curated manager/allocator match and relationship workflow layer. Preqin and PitchBook are institutional research and data platforms. AllocatIN does not replace a data terminal; data terminals do not replace mutual-consent introductions.

Key facts

AllocatIN: invitation-only matching + workflow
Preqin / PitchBook: research datasets, screening, market intelligence
AllocatIN: no performance rankings sold as “best manager” lists
Chat on AllocatIN only after mutual Connect
Use research tools for market maps; use AllocatIN for fit-first intros

Quick answer

AllocatIN helps eligible managers and allocators find each other and connect with consent. Preqin and PitchBook help professionals research markets, funds, and institutions. They are complementary categories, not substitutes.

Comparison table

Treat this as a category comparison. Product feature sets change; verify current capabilities on each vendor’s site.

Attribute	AllocatIN	Research databases (e.g. Preqin, PitchBook)
Primary job	Match + relationship workflow	Research, screen, analyse
Access model	Invitation-only network	Licensed data subscriptions
Core output	Fit explanations, Connect, messaging after mutual yes	Datasets, profiles, benchmarks, exports
Capital / advice	No capital movement; not an adviser	Research tools — not AllocatIN’s scope
Best suited for	Intentional intros inside manager/allocator network	Market mapping and diligence research

When to use AllocatIN

When both parties should already understand institutional fit, you want weekly intro discipline, and messaging should wait for mutual Connect.

When to use a data terminal

When you need comprehensive market data, historical track records as published by those vendors, competitor landscapes, or exportable research datasets.

When not to use AllocatIN as a replacement

Do not use AllocatIN as your sole market database, performance analytics suite, or diligence data room. Off-platform tools remain appropriate for offering documents and formal DDQs.

Frequently asked questions

Does AllocatIN license Preqin or PitchBook data?

This page does not claim a data partnership. AllocatIN operates as a match layer on claimed profiles and product-scored fit. Check AllocatIN’s own pages for current product facts only.

Which should I buy first?

If your bottleneck is research coverage, start with a data terminal. If your bottleneck is relevant, consent-based manager/allocator introductions, evaluate AllocatIN. Many institutions use both categories for different jobs.
